Nadenken over (organisatie van) geluid en stilte in onze klassen
Een boeiend onderwerp en een kans om mee te werken aan relevant onderzoek.

My name is Jiaqi Lu, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Research at KU Leuven in Belgium. I am reaching out to explore the possibility of inviting Freinet school teachers to take part in my research project, which focuses on the sound and silence practices in Freinet schools.
Specifically, I aim to explore whether silence is integrated into teachers’ teaching tools or teaching practices, how teachers utilize and perceive sounds and silences, and how contemporary use of silence differs from what Freinet mentioned in his three books translated into English: The Wisdom of Matthew, Education through work, and Cooperative Learning and social change. This research would contribute to unpacking progressive educators’ endeavours to reform traditional schools’ (In Freinet’s term: “traditional scholastic approach”, “dry academic”) soundscapes, as well as how the soundscapes manifest in Freinet’s Modern schools.
Through this, we will better comprehend teachers’ methods for achieving different soundscapes. The interview will last for one hour and will be conducted in English. Both the teachers’ identity and school will remain confidential. Meanwhile, after analyzing the interviews, I will send my findings to interviewees for member checking to avoid misinterpretation. Teachers who participate in my research, have the right to withdraw their participation at any point during the research without providing any reasons.
If you are interested or have any concerns about my research, Please do not hesitate to contact me.
Looking forward to your reply.
Best Regards,
Jiaqi Lu
